Looking more like an adopted cousin than the high-born it was drummed up to be, the Blackberry 8220 and later on the 8230 was the only clamshell phone from Research in Motion, earning the moniker Blackberry Flip.

Most of its styling elements were taken directly from the Pearl - the sleek, tactile trackball and the QWERTY keyboard that lost a lot of love from some of the truest of loyalists. Users complained that it was a touch too thick, pointing to the sleeker clamshells such as Motorola's Razr series.

Over and above many things, the Flip saw its sales numbers rise over the months following its release because of the excellent software and the astounding build quality, garnering several awards for being one of the sturdiest clamshells in the world.
